{ feature: ryan matthew smith }

Ryan is the principal photographer and photo editor of the upcoming book Modernist Cuisine: The Art and Science of Cooking.

While most of us are content with photographing 'food porn', Ryan goes behind the scenes to produce these stunning images:

Six consecutive frames from a high speed camera recording at 6200 frames per second. The bullet is from a 308 sniper rifle and was travelling roughly 2800 feet per second at the point of impact.

Cutaway of wok fried pad thai.

Spectral emissions from different chemicals burning: (left to right) Methane, Calcium Sulfate, Calcium phosphate, Sodium chloride, Potassiam phosphate, Sodium borate.

The Modernist Cuisine: The Art and Science of Cooking is scheduled to release in March 2011. Visit Ryan's photography website and read his interview with feature shoot to learn more about these images.
