A BASE jumper is an extreme sports enthusiast who loves to jump from Buildings, Antennae, Spans (bridges), and Earth, and this sport for obvious reasons is considered to be extremely dangerous. Why bring this up in a sci fi blog? Well, Felix Baumgartner is going to as close to outer space as possible and will then freefall in an attempt to break the sound barrier of 1236kph. His stratospheric mission, Red Bull Stratos, will see Baumgartner break four world records — and provide important data to NASA scientists.

Baumgartner will be dressed in a protective suit and flown to 120,000 feet in a pressurised capsule before making his jump.
