Opera Speaks @ VPL: "Nagasaki 1900" Featuring soprano Mihoko Kinoshita
Explore the fascinating history and culture of Nagasaki, Japan’s most “European” city, with eminent Japanese historian Midge Ayukawa and UBC professor of Anthroplogy Dr. Millie Creighton. Soprano Mihoko Kinoshita, Butterfly in VO's production, will sing "Un bel di" from Madama Butterfly. And you'll hear koto player Kozue Matsumoto.

Take a whirlwind tour of the thrilling and rewarding world of opera with host Michael Grice, VO’s Director of Education, pianist Tina Chang and singers Sheila Christie and Brian Kwangmin Lee. Learn how opera started, what it takes to be a singer, and how opera is produced. Hear opera music from four centuries, featuring the beautiful and familiar ‘Un bel di’ from Madama Butterfly.
