End of the World Movies: Knowing and 2012

I like to watch end of the world movies, some are well made with interesting ideas and some are down-right silly. I am consistently amused that the United States of America and more specifically either New York or California has been destroyed more times than I can count! Occasionally other countries are thrown in for good measure, but you can count on the Hollywood sign or the Statue of Liberty being destroyed in some form or another.
Anyway, I just watched two different end of the world movies: "2012" starring John Cusack and the other movie "Knowing" starring Nicolas Cage. I could barely watch 2012, really, I could not focus on this movie it was so ridiculous. I like John Cusack's acting for the most part in other movies, but this script was a stinker. On the other hand, I enjoyed Knowing tremendously. Overall, the story was good, interesting ideas, nice discussion on determinism vs indeterminism however brief, and alien involvement in human affairs. There were some action scenes that were over the top and in my opinion not too important to the story but I guess they were aiming to appeal to a wide audience.
If you had to pick between these two movies, I would go with Knowing, it is worth the time and interesting.
