Galaxy Quest

I was talking about William Shatner in my last post and I started thinking about all the Star Trek conventions he attends along with other cast members from all the Trek series and it reminded me of the hilarious comedy Galaxy Quest starring Tim Allen and Sigourney Weaver. It is a parody of Star Trek and the conventions they hold as well as the highly ego centric main character named Jason Nesmith who seems to bask in the fan adoration. The rest of the cast is bitter, jealous, and resent the unending fame of the star. What is clever about the movie is that it takes the fact that at the real Star Trek conventions, people come dressed in costume as their favorite character, so when some unusual aliens appear at the convention in the movie, the cast thinks nothing of it, they are just a bunch of crazy fans. However, they are real aliens seeking help from the crew under the misguided idea that there really exists a space ship and the crew travels intergalactically. They do not realize it is just a television show. This leads to very amuzing and fun situations in the movie. I love it and think it is a fun movie to watch and laugh at because some of us take so seriously our favorite Sci Fi series (I include myself, here!) If you can forget about the world problems for just a few hours, it is really worth watching.
Enjoy!
