Out On The Town: Sushi

I do love to cook, but a girl needs a night off every once in a while, and for me that is usually Friday.  My black belt daughter is needing to be dropped off at the dojo at 7 on Fridays, so that is a perfect opportunity for us to have Date Night in New Jersey.  Last night I was in a sushi mood, and so we went to one of our favorite Japanese restaurants, which I always thought was called Japanese Restaurant (dare to be obvious?) until I looked more closely at this picture and realized that it is actually called Tawara.  Call me crazy but I think they are being a little subtle with the name, no?
It's located in Ramsey, NJ, right between the Frame It Yourself store and the Village Stationers.  Strip malls are us.  But the place is actually very nice -- they have these cute little tables for two booths with little curtains across them, which is very cozy when you are out on Date Night.  Anyway, I am kind of a conservative sushi eater, so I ordered what I always order.

Miso soup, yum yum yum.

Cucumber roll, tobiko, shrimp, tuna.  Kate is a happy girl.  Don, on the other hand is a very adventurous sushi eater, and actually opens the menu and looks at the specials.  Which is why HIS dinner looked like this:

It was bonito nigiri.  (Huh?)  Bonito, he explained, is a warm water fish usually found in Florida.  That's my Southern guy.     So if you are ever in Ramsey NJ, yearning for Japanese food, check it out.  And if you have any Bergen County sushi recommendations for me, let me know!
