My Sci Fi Novel Choices
This weekend I thought I would suggest one of my three top science fiction novels.
1.
Dune by Frank Herbert is one of my favorite novels that I read many years ago but still have the imagery in my mind. What I love most about this novel is the amazing descriptions of the fictional worlds we visit some 20,000 years in the future. I enjoy reading stories that reflect our present or past issues in a futuristic setting and explain to us in ways not possible in present time about ecological issues, trade concerns, and supply and demand. This book is worth the time it takes to read it. In fact, time will fly right by as you get involved in this intriguing world.
2.
1984 by George Orwell is a fantastic tale that takes place in a dystopian future. I find that the warnings are timely because I see that today there tends to be a trend towards removing the rights of people by over-regulating and over-legislating. The story is creative, thought provoking (ex. The Thought Police), and rings true to the reader in any time or place. Again, well worth the read!
3.
HG Wells The Time Machine written in 1895. This novel is responsible for making popular concepts of time travel and terms like time machine. He also introduces the idea that the earth is vulnerable to decay due to human activity. As well, humanity has devolved instead of evolved due to too much human intervention using technology and medicine.
By far my favorite is 1984, in fact I enjoy any dystopian novel that spells out to us the perils we would face if we continued to try and manipulate and control people and countries and even worlds.
