Waiting for Their Morning Walk/Shadowshotsunday

These characters usually live over on Buster's blog but
the shadows and color contrasts were rather fun.

Shadows and Curiosities

Robert Schmid

A glass jug on the counter top.
Not exactly shadows --more reflections.

Union Square, Saturday. We go up early when the shadows
are the strongest and discover two curious dogs.

Our dog discovers that the dog paddling pool is very small indeed.

We have a long chat with the man selling lilies.

Shadow Shot Sunday - and a Puppy

For lots of other ShadowShots go to HeyHarriet here!

Grand Central Station and the shadow of a building near it.
I'm off to Port Chester by train.

Metro North train speeding along through the Bronx and into Westchester.

I'm heading for Petsmart at Port Chester where Petrescue are having an open house.
I had been in touch with Gwen who has checked our references.
Our daughter-in-law has a friend who adopted through them.
Well, here he is!

PetRescue is a wonderful organization.
All the dogs available to good homes were healthy and beautifuly cared for.
Sophie and her mother who had fostered and loved our little guy were very sad to see him go.
Who can blame them? We haven't finally decided on a name.
I sort of favor Buster. Hmm......suggestions?

He prefers the sofa to his crate.....wouldn't you?
He has mastered the art of asking R. if there are any
little left over pieces of toast.

Union Square and Blogging

When I got off the bus by Madison Park, I thought of Reya.
There I was, large as life, reflected in a garbage can.
Reya always has lovely distorted images and a dog.
More of that later.

I met Bonbon Oiseau because we had to discuss Morocco and India.
She has lived in the latter which I recently visited -- and vice versa.
Lots to discuss over tea in ABC Carpet....
which is right by Union Square Green Market.
It was late afternoon so one cannot blame the stall-holder
having a nap in his splendid red truck.

This plump, scruffy dog was sitting patiently near an apple stall --
Which brings us to thoughts of dogs. Much scanning of Petfinder.com lately.
Applications put in. Are we fit to be allowed to adopt a dog? Will we be rejected out of hand?
Vet references needed. Luckily our previous dog lived to be 16 and the cat 18.
But even so..... I will keep you posted.

In the meantime, bleeding hearts, pansies and herbs.

A Gallery of Animals/India

Apologies: These entries are getting much too long.
We are now back in New York, but, since some people are enjoying India, probably about four more days.......

Although there are no lions in India except in zoos, the lion is a powerful symbol and often seen. Here on a sort of sedan chair in Jodhpur. He reminded R. of our cat Mr.B in Marrakesh.

Here in a garden in Udaipur. We only saw four domestic cats in three weeks...very odd.

These little creatures, who resemble squirrels/chipmunks/gerbils (erudite readers please tell me the name,) are all over the place -- very bold and cheerful. This one is ejoying my extra cornflakes in Ranacpur.

This haughty camel was about to take tourists on an evening stroll.
Much less grueling work than his cousins who pull carts along the busy roads.

Mother and child. The donkeys tend to be quite small.
The loads they pull are somewhat smaller than in Morocco.
 Quite near Ranacpur.

Yes, yes, I know. We have seen this character before - but a different photo.
The very essence of dogness. Look at the spotted tummy and fat front paws.
No inbreeding here. Had he been in America I would have adopted him that instant.

Dogs in India have either a good or bad time of it depending on how you look at it.
Very few have owners and leads. They get to wander around freely. People pretty much ignore them --maybe throw them some scraps, but they don't hit them or shoo them away.
Some are quite pitifully thin and in some towns more prosperous. Almost all limp.
Here a little dog, whose ancestors continue to this day, is fed in a mural by the lake in Udaipur.

These churning, sacred, whiskery cat fish in the lake at Jeselmer enjoy eating sliced white bread. Ramesh bought some from a  nearby vendor.

Holy cow indeed!

Another mother and child in the street in Jeselmer.

More Peaceful -including Animals

India is vibrant and colorful - but some of the things I liked best were the quietest and most peaceful.

A donkey cart very early in the morning beside the road between Agra and Delhi.

A large puppy who wanted to be my pal at a lunch stop on the way to Bikaner. He had a very cheerful character. I think he would be very bored in New York.

The sheep and the goats.

Late afternoon in Mandawa. A young woman is driving the cows home.

Evening sky. Mandawa.

Animal Update and Jodhpur.

Yesterday the 2 buses full of tourists looked at the sun set, got back in their buses and went away.
Another strange supper.
Feeling a little queasy, we ordered a light supper.
After we had eaten a waiter entered with the sort of box you get from a bakery.
Please, whatever divity there is, don't let it be a cake and don't let it be for us................
It wasn't.

I gave two dogs the remainder of my sandwich from yesterday's lunch

More Dogs

I had such fun at the dog show on Monday, I went back for more.
As far as yesterday's unscientific poll went, the winners were the rough-haired dachshund and the Scottish deer  hound. Mostly because of their lovely soulful eyes.

I like taking pictures of the dogs with their owners.
There are some pictures just of dogs I like --though I like mutts best of all.
This is the bliss of blogging. No editors to insist on stuff.....

This character managed to relax amidst all the hubbub.

Lots of people like toy dogs and there were oodles of dog accessories for sale.

The wirehaired German pointer is a very fancy breed but manages to look like a mutt.

Wow!

Some dogs and owners were getting hot and tired.

Some were getting a little anxious...

or even bored.

This is the one who wants to be a mutt.

And one who certainly isn't.

And finally, my personal best in show, Colin, the Welsh Springer Spaniel.

Westminster Dog Show

Dog #1.
This is a long post with lots of pictures.
Yesterday I went to the Dog Show.
I did not look at the judging since everyone knows that their own dog is positively the best and most beautiful dog on the planet.
However, just for fun, please vote below on the one of these who charmed you most.

Dog #2
Odd how people, even the girl above, seem to pick dogs who echo them.

Dog #3
Certainly something to look at. What are those balls on his hips?

Dog #4
A Brittany but the same color as the Welsh Springer Spaniels I grew up with. (Sob).

Dog #5
I asked the owner if this dog needed lots and lots of excercise and she said that actually, after a normal sort of walk, he liked lying around sleeping.

Dog #6
.... looks as if he is smiling and very noble too.

Dog #7
....was 6 years old and looks like a puppy. A Norfolk terrier.

Dog #8
....was enjoying ice cream. About a zillion people reminded her not to let the dog eat the chocolate. I think the owner gets points for her coat.

Dog #9
This young owner was waiting to show his dog.

I bought my son a Dogs Rule T-shirt and was given lots of free samples for Joba.
