Torri Higginson Interview

I watched an interview on Sky1 with Torri Higginson who played my favorite character on Stargate Atlantis, Dr. Elizabeth Weir. She was commenting on the new Stargate series entitled Stargate Universe and how the show is more character driven rather than plot driven and I could not agree more. I enjoyed SG1 and Atlantis was my favorite of the two series, but I continuously complained about the lack of character building in both shows. I felt we got to know a little of their lives but all in all, the story was what drove both series. I am so pleasantly surprised with Stargate Universe and I am enjoying each episode. The action comes at the right time and the character development also at the right time, plus I love that the consciousness of each person aboard the ship Destiny can travel to Earth in another body and interact with friends and loved ones with or without their knowledge. It is a creative idea and one drawn from Stargate history using the Asgard stones, just brilliant. As Torri Higginson said in the interview, each series is unique and each interesting in that regard, and I am glad that Stargate Universe is already slated for a second season.

Stargate Props For Sale!

If you liked Jack O´Neill´s zat gun in Stargate SG1, you can buy it on eBay when they go up for auction along with a lot of other props from Stagate SG1 and Stagate Atlantis. Since I am more of a fan of Atlantis, I might go for Ronan´s Wraith gun or even a ZPM ( too bad it really doesn´t work!) Anyway, I am sure there are plenty of fans who will want to buy these props and what a smart way to make money because as I have understood, the Stargate Franchise has always been very budget oriented and has tried to make the most out of each set for the least amount of money. I like that because it forces more creativity when you have limited money to work with.
Too bad the zat doesn´t work either, it would make a great deterrent to pick pockets and thieves.

Musings on Stargate Universe

I have seen only the first five episodes of the new Stargate Series entitled Stargate Universe, but so far I like what I see. It took me some time to warm up to Stargate Atlantis, but in the end I am a big fan of that show and its characters. In this new series, the characters are even less defined and are being revealed very slowly as the show progresses. Even the lead scientist, Dr. Rush, is a very odd character and I am left wondering if he is good or has less than noble motives, which I find interesting in and of itself. Another thing I like about the characters aboard the Ancient spacecraft Destiny, is that not all of them were meant to be there. An emergency occured forcing all on the military base to enter a wormhole to the ship Destiny and thus we have this odd combination of characters, some trained for such a mission and others absolutely not ready for such a journey. I have high hopes for this show and can´t wait to see if it keeps being as interesting as it has been so far. I like that it is quiet, lots of dialogue, and logic with a mix of chance thrown in to solve problems.
