Alice in Wonderland White Knight armour and Mad Hatter battle costume...

Aside from the futuristic Tron costume display, another of the highlights of the Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives exhibit at Disney's D23 Expo this year had to be these fantastic battle costumes from Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland.

I've already seen many costumes from the movie up close, but I loved seeing these Colleen Atwood designed outfits, especially the White Knight battle armour worn by Mia Wasikowska as the titular 'Alice' when she fights the Red Queen's army and the Jabberwocky at the end of the movie.

You don't often see battle armour made for women in movies, especially someone so petite as Mia, so it was interesting to see that the materials used were mainly faux metal and looked quite lightweight to wear. It's a wonderfully detailed costume and looked very convincing on the big screen.

Also on display beside the armour were Alice's ornate sword and shield props.

Johnny Depp's colourful and unique Mad Hatter battle outfit and sword prop was also included in the exhibit.

Colleen Atwood won an Oscar for Best Costume Design for her work on Tim Burton's and Disney's Alice in Wonderland. They look great on the big screen, but it's when you see them up close you can really see why she took home the coveted Academy Award.

These two amazing costumes from the live-action movie were photographed on display at the Treasures of the Walt Disney exhibit at the Disney D23 Expo in Anaheim, California on August 19, 2011.

Johnny Depp is wonderfully eccentric as the 'Mad Hatter' in the movie and so is his appearance, from his bright orange hair to his eclectic wardrobe.

This look sports the Mad Hatter's 'Sad Hat' according to the Disney exhibit.

Mia Wasikowska wore this pretty blue silk dress as the titular 'Alice' and it's lovely to see it up close, especially detail like the animal adorned hem of the dress.

Cool costumes, models and props at Disney's D23 Expo..

If you're a Disney fan then you'll love the D23 Expo at the Anaheim Convention Center, but if you're a fan of original movie costumes, props and models, you may just love it a little bit more than the others attending.

Disney's D23 Expo

The three day event which runs from August 19-21 is the second expo following the inaugural convention in 2009, but this time the Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives exhibit is even bigger and better, double the size of the original expo.

Pirates of the Caribbean Black Pearl miniature on display

In the lower convention halls you be greeted by this spectacular Black Pearl miniature pirate ship from the second and third Pirates of the Caribbean movies, then upstairs you can enjoy the 12,000-square-foot costume and prop exhibit.

Probably the highlight for me was this fantastic costumes worn in the original Tron movie, which was displayed incredibly, the lighting really helping to show of the iconic sci-fi outfits.

The Disney exhibit also had several wonderful costumes worn by Johnny Depp and Mia Wasikowska in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland 2010 live-action movie, some of which I'd not had the pleasure to see up close before.

Of course it wouldn't be a Disney event without some costumes from their successful Pirates of the Caribbean movie franchise, and the expo not only had costumes and props from the latest film, On Stranger Tides, but also a wonderful display from Dead Man's Chest and At World's End.

Cruella De Vil's office set from 101 Dalmatians

To mark the 50th anniversary of the animated classic, 101 Dalmatians, they also recreated Cruella de Vil's office from the 1996 live-action movie version, which stood alongside two of the spectacular costumes that Glenn Close wore as the iconic villain in the movie and its sequel.

TV fans weren't disappointed either, as they had really impressive display of costumes and props from the pilot episode of the phenomenally successful television series LOST, plus the Dharma Initiative van. In addition you could exclusively see actual costumes from the late 50's TV version of Zorro.

There was so much nostalgic movie memorabilia that it brought back many long forgotten and cherished memories, from films like The Rocketeer and even Hocus Pocus.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives and thought it was filled with loads of great movie magic and beautifully presented.

A Very Merry Unbirthday to YOU!: the Lewis Carroll Party

Happy Unbirthday!!!

What-- you didn't know it was your Unbirthday? Well, it comes around so quickly, I can see where you might be surprised to find it here so soon. It's my Unbirthday, too! And his... and hers...

So the preparations are made and the flamingos are just waiting for the post-tea game of croquet-- have a seat! Pour yourself a spot of something nice from this bottle marked "Drink Me."

Okay, okay... you found me out. This is all actually just a bit of silliness for my friend Josette who comes to visit each year. This past year has been very rough for her personally-- and with Dad passing, mine hasn't exactly been the Queen's rose garden, either-- and I figured we both needed an extra dose of levity for this upcoming long weekend of antiquing and catching up.

So I thought I'd put all my Fiestaware and Alice in Wonderland-inspired decor to use for a whimsical theme that might make my friend laugh a little...

She already knows I'm quite mad, so that part won't be a surprise.

The Unbirthday lettering came from the dollar store, as did the red and white rose garland. I thought the giant Fiestaware cocoa cup versus the normal-sized teacup gave a nice Wonderland effect. The Mad Hatter-like "hat" lampshades were the Tuesday Morning finds that started me off-and-running with this idea.

The checkerboard mantle "runner" and the placemats are actually laminate floor tiles I glued together; they came from the dollar store, too.

I think there's just something about the quirky art deco lines of Fiestaware that sets the right tone... The little heart-shaped ice cream bowls came from Tuesday Morning; they're not Fiesta.

I'm in the process of making little theme cakes that are covered in fondant, but I'm not sure if they'll turn out. I've never worked with fondant before, so if they aren't too scary to look at, I'll share those with you folks later.
