welcoming the sun god

Spring was official two weekends ago. And it was Spring by all means for the first two days of it - and then the rest was cold rain, muddy ground and grey skies. It served as a great conversation starter nonetheless:

I can't believe this shitty weather. It was fine a few days ago. I feel so cheated.

But then it all changed when Floriade began. I think the Canberra weather just needed a little encouragement. So, like a Spring ritual, the people planted more than a million bulbs of tulips, poppies, pansies (and many other varieties that my fingers are unable to type without making a typing error or two) and voila! out came the sun!

The day started out just like any other day, except for the fact that there was more UV radiation than I had seen since I moved to Canberra. Good sign! Here was what my 7 hours of basking in the sun was like:

Ran into a lost stranger and decided that every Spring event now needs a zebra!

An artist in front of what could've been an inspiring view for me.
I'm coming early to bag that spot next year, mister!

A kid that reminded me of my Supervisor. To think I thought of anything work-related on such a glorious day. How awful!

Security check at the petting zoo. Hey buddy, no chocolates on me!

Got cosy with a chick.

Made new friends. And then, friends of theirs.

And all these happening while street organ orchestra was playing in the air.

Oh! Almost forgot the flowers!

After weeks of taking sun rays for granted - sunburn followed suit. Happy Spring to those in the Asia Pacific region, and remember to slap on the SPFs!
